About Sofia Art Academy |

Sofia
Art Academy, founded in 1993, is the first traditional European-style classic
art school for children and adults in Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.
By utilizing the best traditions of European
art academies, our students successfully achieve a strong
knowledge in academic style painting, drawing, design, and
composition.
Based on thirty years experience of teaching in Europe and US, we developed a very unique academic program that works for kids, teenagers and adults. Our program has proven to be a great success. Students of Sofia Art Academy gain knowledge
and experience of the "Old Masters" techniques taught in best European
art academies and ateliers for centuries. We are also specializing in preparing fine art portfolios for submitting to colleges. Our students' portfolios win scholarships!

| What is Academic Art School and It's Style? |
|
Academic art school teaches a style called Classical Realism. This style of drawing and painting produced under the influence of European art academies or universities.
Specifically, academic art is the art and artists influenced by the standards of the French Académie des beaux-arts, which practiced under the movements of Neoclassicism and Romanticism, and the art that followed these two movements in the attempt to synthesize both of their styles, and which is best reflected by the paintings of William-Adolphe Bouguereau, Suzor-Coté, Thomas Couture, and Hans Makart.
In this context it is often called "academism", "academicism", "L'art pompier", and "eclecticism". The art influenced by academies and universities in general is also called "academic art". |
